| 26 Aug 2007 | Councillor Newman | The equestrian trails and paddock are an exciting element to this plan. Local equestrians have expressed a desire for an equestrian link from North Maleny to town and this could be a strong part of that link. In a seperate study, Council are currently examining the various informal equestrian trails that are being used in Maleny to determine how Council may look to join them up. There certainly is an element of risk in mixing horses and people. This risk is occuring right now at our Show Grounds, but with good will and common sense, we seem to all get along. If you have any information that could inform Council on current links that you use, please contact David Cooper in Council, or send me an email and I will pass it on. |
| 26 Aug 2007 | Dianne Brown | I feel inspired and excitied by the Obi Obi parklands concept. Congratulations to all concerned for listening to the community!! I am concerned about the equestrian section. We have horses and my children ride. There is nothing I would like better than safe riding trials for them to enjoy. However 3km on horseback is at best half an hours ride and I fear the trail may become over used and eroded. If it were part of a larger link up it would work better. The mix of community common with kite flying, etc. and equestrian paddock with young riders is not a good one. Bolting horses are just as dangerous as any traffic situation. I hope this is useful critisism. |
| 25 Aug 2007 | WARWICK DEACOCK | A great big exercise in practical and effective ,innovative democracy for the common good. Right up to date (including Carbon Credits ). Something that we can all be proud to pass on to future generations -sustainable,and profitable in human phyaical and mental health and bank balance. May the winds favour Obi Obi Parklands ! |
| 22 Aug 2007 | Bill Richardson, for National Assistant Secretary, Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) (retired) | I am absolutely opposed to a golf course in Maleny.Golfers in Sydney and Melbourne travel long distances to play golf. Maleny golfers only need to travel thirty minutes down the mountain! The Obi Obi Parklands proposal is the only option that provides for the Maleny community and its many organisations and individuals. My thanks to all who have initiated this option. |
| 22 Aug 2007 | Sharon Woolard | Hi, I received in today's mail, the following letter from Cr. Anna Grosskreutz, Div. 2. She wrote to me in response to a letter I wrote to Council about 2 weeks ago, against the golf course development. Thank you. Sharon Woolard "Dear Sharon Thank you for your email regarding the Maleny Precinct land. Having reviewed all the plans and information provided over a number of years, I am now really interested in pursuing the Obi Obi Parklands option. The plan is both exciting, affordable, environmentally suitable and would provide Maleny with a unique opportunity to build on its "ethos of a sustainable society." I just love the concept and will provide support for its development when asked. A large golf course surrounded by a housing estate would be a disappointing outcome for the majority of Maleny and surrounding communities. Rather like Pelican Waters instead of Maleny. All the best. Kind regards Cr. Anna Grosskreutz Division 2 - Caloundra Council" |
| 22 Aug 2007 | Karyn Maher | I want to congratulate you all - what a tremendous amount of community spirit; great forsight and most of all what an inclusive, enviromentally appropriate, community building, economically sustainable plan! Your plan not only utilises this parcel of land as a show-case for Maleny, but visitors, residents, businesses alike will enjoy the benefits of what will be a further focus for the township of Maleny. I could not help but contrast this plan with that put forward by Council for consideration. The Obi-Obi Parklands will become a central focus point for community; the Council's proposal sees the vast majority of the land falling into exclusive/member use. This plan is environmentally sensitive; the only green component of an 18 hole golf course is the result of chemicals and fertilisers which not only destroy the habitat on the land but leeches into the water system to destroy the sensitive aquatic habititats. I applaud this proposal and thank you to all who have been involved to give the Maleny, Blackall Range and Sunshine Coast community such a wonderful opportunity. Please, please, Council, let's work from the Obi-Obi Parklands proposal! | 20 Aug 2007 | John Wildman | DEALS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Reading Caloundra City Living, first 4 paragraphs, talks of recreational parks, unique landscapes, parks & gardens stunning natural beauty and making it easier for residents to use. That is what the Obi Obi Parklands is all about, giving to the community. A golf course doesnŐt. The Mayor keeps bombarding us in the Range News, an open slate, a 18 hole golf course is a must for our health. Mr Mayor if you want a golf course do a site specific investigation, make details public with a business / financial plan. Council got a partial site plan for a community golf course at Kawana. Council turned down the developers offer, because it had problems. Problems on the precinct have been identified by Council Planners. DoesnŐt the Mayor take notice? NO. A true site specific survey must be done by a competent Environmental Consultant who covers at least the fields of geology, soil conservation, slip zones, ecology, hydrology & agronomy. When completed this information should be disclosed to a public meeting at Maleny. This would demonstrate CouncilŐs full transparency. Regarding the Maleny Precinct, it is quite obvious this decision has been made behind closed doors. The information for the meeting of July 5th obtained under FOI, the Mayors team defeated the Hinterlanders. This decision was a farce made on this information alone, without a financial plan Caloundra City Living [page 11] - Developers will cover $2.5m of the $3.5m of the LGMS cost. Council know that their plan for an 18 hole community golf course at Maleny will go belly up. The developers who did the wheeling & dealing on the LGMS, know this, or were alerted. Maleny will end up with 122 hectares of boxes - little boxes, as on Little Mountain. John Wildman. Maleny. |
| 18 Aug 2007 | Linda Cooper | This looks like a unique plan for a unique area, creating a place for all to enjoy. |
| 18 Aug 2007 | Ian Gardner | Right from the start, so many months ago, when this concept was first mooted, it made obvious sense to me from all perspectives. What this concept has that the others do not have is wisdom. |
| 18 Aug 2007 | Henrietta McAlister | The Obi Obi Parklands plan is a visionary plan for the site. It complements the many other spaces on the Maleny Plateau, public and private, people have worked hard to restore and conserve. The northern end of the Range, Montville, Flaxton and Mapleton, are blessed with National Parks that provide habitat for the remaining native species now facing a new threat, climate change. Native species will benefit greatly from the establishment of corridors to and along the creek in the Obi Obi Parklands. In years to come these Parklands will be a popular picnic, barbeque spot for tourists, giving the Mary Cairncross Park some respite. It will be a fitting legacy to future generations of Malenyites. Congratulations on taking the plan to the next level. Henrietta |
